I spent Saturday afternoon video taping Gus. Here he is:

I have a new furbaby! He’s 8 weeks old and we named him Gus. He’s got the greatest personality and I’m already madly in love with him.

Someone left a box of 4 kittens on the stoop at my friend’s vet’s office. Gus was the last one that hadn’t been placed. My friend called me on Wednesday night to see if I could take him. He said the vet hadn’t been able to place him and all the no-kill shelters were full. Being the softie that I am of course I had to take him. I was ready to get another cat anyway…since Q passed away, my other cat, Dexter, has really been missing him. We wanted to get him another buddy. Gus and my dog, Hermes, became instant friends. Dexter is a little stand-offish but I think he’ll come around soon. He was tolerant and not hissing so that’s a good sign.

I’ve had a very sad week. My cat, Q, had been having breathing difficulties for the past month and we had been to the vet at least 5 times with each treatment failing to get a response. The vet thought he had a severe upper respiratory infection and we had him on all kinds of antibiotics and steroids. His breathing became so labored that on Wednesday evening we took him to the emergency vet hospital and had him in an oxygen tent all night. The next day (yesterday) we took him to a specialist to get a scope done of his throat and found out that he had cancer of the larynx. This type of cancer is fast growing and untreatable. Apparently white cats are genetically predisposed for this and there would have been nothing we could have done to prevent it. I wish we had known sooner and he wouldn’t have suffered so much at the end.

At the specialist, my family gathered around and held Q while he was euthanized. We adopted him from the shelter when he was 3 weeks old and he would have been 16 next month. He was the most loving and sweet cat I have ever had.

I have to brag about my sweet hubby.  My birthday was this month.  He secretly took the day off work and cleaned the whole house.  He wasn’t home when I got here…I walked in to my spotless house and there were beautiful flowers on the counter with a porcelain doll and card.  He had a birthday cake made and had them put a dragonfly on it (I love dragonflies).  A few moments later he arrived and said “I cooked dinner” with translates to KFC.

 For my birthday present he had me order the paper organizer I’ve been wanting.  My downline has one and I’ve been wanting one ever since I saw hers.  I ordered it from Amazon and it has 72 paper slots.  I can’t wait till it gets here!

 I hope everyone is having a glorious Easter!  We’re headed over to my parents house to hang out, watch the little ones hunt eggs and eat a massive feast!  My 19 yr old son will hide easter eggs in the backyard for my two nieces, ages 10 & 6.  We also will have my son’s best friend with us.  He will experience his first American Easter.  “Easter” in Swedish is Påsk. 

It’s was in the 80’s on Tuesday and then today it’s snowing!   We’re going to my parents tomorrow for Easter dinner.  I was so hoping there would be warm weather for my little niece’s to hunt eggs but I guess that’s not going to happen.  Luckily, little kids don’t seem mind what the weather is when they’re having so much fun.

Today is my 23rd wedding anniversary.  Brad surprised me with lots and lots of roses.  We went out to dinner and were supposed to go to the movies but decided we would rather spend the evening at home together.  We didn’t exchange gifts since we recently made big purchases for each other.

Welcome to my blog!   I actually can’t believe I have one!  Hopefully I’ll be able to find the time to keep it updated.  I also hope the content won’t make you fall asleep!

The weather is so beautiful today…much nicer than all the snow & ice we had this winter.  My saucer magnolia is blooming along with all the other trees and the fish are swimming at the top of the pond.  My dog, Hermes, wants to stay outside 24/7.  My son’s best friend is coming for a visit on Monday.  He lives in Sweden and will be here for 2 weeks.  I want to do major spring cleaning before he gets here.  Now you know what I’ll be doing all weekend!
